It made my fingers itch and reach for my own FIMO (the Dutch equivalent of Sculpey) and start a new nightmare fish.
If I have to make several pictures of some critter I often model it in Fimo, much easier than modeling it in a 3D program.
A tip about the oily sheen on the thingie: it is the same color-combination as mother-of-pearl and you get by sampling a good photograph of an abalone. Or, more direct, sampling my picture. I have some other pictures with mother -of-pearl effect;

Keep on with the good work and thanks for the inspiration.
Really great illustration, I quite like that oily, reflective colour on the...thingies.
I can't say there's anything I dislike at all. I love the color scheme. The shapes remind me of a beautiful shimmering clothe I once saw. The man seems mysterious and interesting.
If this was the cover of a book, I probably wouldn't care about who wrote it, what the title is or what the story is about. I'd buy it simply on this first impression and let myself be surprised to what the story entrails.
The picture gives me a strange feeling, too, and if I wasn't writing already two novels simultaneously, his story would be the one I would be writing right now.
